April 19, 2017

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – April 19, 2017 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that for the sixth year in a row, an SJC student will receive the Long Island Recreational Trails Conservancy’s (LIRTC) annual scholarship. This year, Holly Reycroft ’17 was selected by the organization for her military service and commitment to education. The annual ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 21.

“Holly Reycroft is to be admired for her dedication to a life of service,” said Erin D’Eletto, director of the Office of Military and Veteran Services at SJC. “We commend Holly for her military service and thank her for the richness and diversity she brings to the SJC community. The College is proud to have supported her academic success and we congratulate her on receiving this well-deserved scholarship.”

Reycroft, a Hampton Bays resident, retired from the 106 Rescue Wing in Westhampton Beach after 24 years of service in the finance department. As the first female in her family to join the military, she rose through the ranks and retired as a master sergeant. After beginning her college career in 1977 at Suffolk County Community College in Selden, New York, Reycroft did not re-enter college until 2014 when she began studying at SJC. This spring, she will graduate from SJC with an accounting and business management degree.

A military-friendly school with a dedicated Office of Military and Veteran Services, SJC offers online, on- and off-site class schedules for its military and veteran students, including class offerings at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island, the Jones Beach Coast Guard Station in Freeport, SFO Moriches in East Moriches and the Shinnecock Coast Guard Station in Hampton Bays, New York. In addition, SJC is an active participant in the Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program, offering student veterans financial support, a monthly housing allowance and an annual stipend for books and school supplies. SJC is consistently ranked among the nation's best colleges for active military, veterans, spouses and dependents by U.S. News & World Report, Military Times, GI Jobs and Military Advanced Education.
