Develop a sense of global interconnectedness with our Department of Modern Languages. Throughout the program, students study diverse languages, cultures and literature and prepare for a career in an ever-changing world.

Our modern languages graduates emerge with a global perspective, gained by immersing themselves in such modern languages as Spanish, French and Italian. The Modern Languages Department helps students develop invaluable skills in communication, public speaking, critical thinking, problem-solving, human relations and research.

There are many ways to customize your experience in the program. Choose between simply majoring in Spanish or being a Spanish major with a concentration in adolescence education. Also consider adding a minor in Spanish or Latino studies or choosing a Spanish concentration as a child study major.

Get ready for a world of vast opportunities with St. Joseph's University Department of Modern Languages.

Child study, with a concentration in Spanish

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience in the program. It has given me the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and appreciate literature in a different language. As a child study major, it’s important to me that I practice my Spanish to make it easier for me to communicate with students who are English Language Learners."
