This program is ideal for students with diverse interests and talents, helping them develop the personal, academic and professional skills necessary to excel in the field of communication.

Join our department, and choose from three dynamic specializations of study — speech language pathology/audiology, theatre and communication arts — all of which lead to a B.A. in Speech.

Students are encouraged to focus on one specialization, but they do have the option to take an eclectic mix of all three. Our communication studies department is widely recognized for its focus on the practical experiences and internships that lead to meaningful and productive careers. Students will work closely in a small-class setting with our highly-credentialed faculty of respected and active practitioners in the field.

Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Major

Students at St. Joseph’s University who earn a B.A. in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology prepare first for a top graduate school, then for two distinct careers: One in which they diagnose and treat individuals with hearing loss and hearing-related disorders as an audiologist, and the other in which they evaluate and provide therapy to people with a wide range of communication disorders as a speech-language pathologist.

Gain the means for effective communication with a minor in speech. In addition to three required course, choose from electives that complement your major for a total of 18 credits. Acceptance of transfer credits is at the discretion of the chair or associate chair.

Theatre Minor

An 18-credit theatre minor is enhanced by the campus’ close proximity to the Brooklyn Academy of Music, as well as to Broadway and off-Broadway offerings. This minor provides an overview of theatre and drama and gives students the opportunity to participate in drama productions.
