Presented as part of SJC "How to" Webinar Series, this session will feature guest speaker Betty Duggan '75, director of NYC Medical Reserve Corps for the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. She will discuss best ways to build and boost self confidence and strategies for communicating effectively.

Duggan has an extensive background in volunteer management. Prior to coming to the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, she served as the director of volunteer and community programs at the Medicare Rights Center where she managed a consumer hotline, was the principal trainer and managed more than 500 volunteers. As manager of the NYC Medical Reserve Corps, Duggan has the privilege of working with more than 8,425 highly skilled health care professionals who agree to respond in the event of a disaster or emergency in New York City and to assist with public health initiatives.

Recipient of the 2017 Elizabeth Fitch Leadership Award, Duggan is a member of the National Association of City and County Health Organizations (NACCHO) Medical Reserve Corps Workgroup and the NACCHO Core Competencies Workgroup. She is also a member of New York Association of Volunteer Administrators and the Greater New York Association of Volunteer Services.

In addition, Duggan is a mentor volunteer for interested SJC students and graduates who are part of the College's SJCmentor program.
